Addiction & Long-Term Recovery

Image

Recovery is not about fighting yourself. It is about coming home to yourself. Addiction rarely develops without a reason. More often, it is an attempt to cope with emotional pain, overwhelming stress, loneliness, or experiences that exceed our capacity to manage them. At Gray Owl Psychotherapy, we do not view addiction solely through the lens of substances or behaviors. We seek to understand the story behind them.

We believe recovery is about far more than stopping the use of alcohol, drugs, or other compulsive behaviors. It is a process of reconnecting with your Self, reclaiming your inner freedom, and creating a life that reflects your deepest values.

When You're Ready for Change

The decision to seek help is often difficult. Whether you are just beginning to question your relationship with alcohol or drugs, have experienced a relapse, or have lived for years feeling that addiction has taken control of your life, you do not have to face it alone. We provide psychotherapy for individuals struggling with both substance use and behavioral addictions, including:

  • Alcohol
  • Drugs and other psychoactive substances
  • Prescription medication misuse
  • Gambling
  • Compulsive shopping
  • Pornography
  • Internet and technology use
  • Other compulsive behaviors
Our goal is not simply to stop destructive patterns. Therapy is about understanding where those patterns came from, developing healthier ways of coping with emotions, and gradually reclaiming personal agency, freedom, and a meaningful life.

Long-Term Recovery

Sobriety is not the end of recovery. For many people, it is only the beginning. As life stabilizes, unresolved trauma, emotional wounds, and developmental deficits that once fueled addiction often become more visible. When addiction is no longer at the center of life, new questions naturally emerge.

How do I build healthy relationships?
How do I experience difficult emotions without escaping from them?
How do I rest, experience joy, and discover a meaningful direction in life?
What gives purpose to life in recovery?
Our work with people in long-term recovery focuses on these questions. It offers space for continued growth, deeper self-connection, and creating a life in which recovery becomes much more than abstinence—it becomes a way of living authentically and reconnecting with your Self.

Individual & Group Therapy

We offer both individual and group psychotherapy. Individual therapy provides the opportunity to explore your personal history, emotions, and goals at a pace that feels right for you.

Group therapy offers a unique opportunity to understand yourself through relationships with others. It is a place to experience support, develop healthier ways of connecting, and discover that recovery does not have to be a solitary journey.

Our Approach

Our work is grounded in integrative psychotherapy, adapting the therapeutic process to the individual rather than expecting the individual to fit a particular method. We draw from Schema Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), mindfulness, and body-based approaches. Above all, we believe that the therapeutic relationship itself is the foundation of healing—a relationship built on trust, collaboration, and respect. Learn more about our integrative approach.

May the Self Be with You

Many years of working with people in recovery inspired Greg Dziedzic to write Niech Ja będzie z Tobą (May the Self Be with You).

The book is built around one central idea: recovery does not end with sobriety. It is a lifelong process of reconnecting with the Self, developing emotional maturity, and creating a life you no longer need to escape from. This philosophy continues to shape the foundation of Gray Owl Psychotherapy.

Take the First Step

You do not have to know whether you have an addiction. You do not need to know which form of support is right for you. You simply need to be willing to begin the conversation.

During your first consultation, we will explore your situation together and determine the path that best supports your needs and goals.
